The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.

Although not quite at the equivalent scale as pardoning holiday birds, but the county's top official experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the beginning of a new presidential term.

“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”

The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The pig, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people shouting “six-seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A New Life

Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the holiday season,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.

“It embodies the essence of Miami: happy, varied, and based in heritage that unite the community. Every time, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”

Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
