The Black Phone
Derrickson's claustrophobic thriller holds up well despite the lack of a sequel. Taking place in the late 70s in Denver, several kidnappings has left the children on edge. The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the struggle between faith and wealth, the victory is clear for materialism in this director's wonderfully garish film adaptation regarding the shamed televangelist plus her lawbreaking partner. Garfield portrays the corrupt Bakker, who states initially, asserting religious justification for riches. He and Tammy Faye set about capitalizing on the nation's Christian beliefs. It's an extravaganza of poor styling, excessive cosmetics and insincerity, yet the lead actress succeeds to depict the real-life figure in a likable light. Tuesday 14 October, late night, Film4
