Manchester United Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
