Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to reprise their roles in the new Hunger Games instalment, Sunrise on the Reaping.
It has been confirmed that original stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production is currently underway.
A Significant Return to Panem
The duo are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. Industry whispers indicate their cameos will probably be featured in a future-set scene, as the original saga concluded with their characters married and with children.
This marks the sixth film in the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise.
The Source Material
Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a recent book by series creator Suzanne Collins. It serves as the second prequel film after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed most of the previous films in the series.
A New Era in Panem
The film's narrative are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is portrayed as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.
The supporting roles feature several prominent actors in important characters:
- Jesse Plemons is playing Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes takes on the part of a earlier incarnation of the calculating President Snow.
