Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a colorful mix of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, fiends, and malevolent powers expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
Episode 3 ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of adventurers who will split off from the main group to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).
The Reason for Division
Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.
Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem out of place, but the events of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the group knows exactly where to head next after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.
Casimir then settled his debts and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, north of the city, with Cyd close behind.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each member has a specific drive to exit the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants revenge.
- The adventurer knows Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous location.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
- However, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the group access locations they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control the setting for a multiple motives, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- Teor is marked for death by the clan.
This means them little choice but to head to the northern region in search of the antagonist.
What’s Next?
From the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Seekers and Planners parties.
Fans can look forward to finding out which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
